The extrusion melt pump, also known as a gear pump, can serve as a useful supplement to almost any extrusion production line.
The melt pump is located downstream of the extruder screw and barrel, screen and crushing plate. Composed of temperature controlled, inlet port, housing and outlet port. At its core, the housing contains a set of precision gears that mesh with each other (usually designed as spur or helical gears), which rotate together with self-lubricating bearings in the melt.
There are many benefits to using a melt pump.
1. Improve output stability
2. Compensate for extruders with poor output capacity caused by wear or improper use of screws and barrel design.
3. Minimize or eliminate the effects of material non-uniformity
4. Reduce material backflow and increase product yield.
The use of a melt pump can be combined with most extruders, single screw or twin-screw machines. They are usually easy to install and can often be integrated with existing line controls.
